A Round House is A Great Fit!
Day 3 March 8th
We demoed the house today. It took about 15 minutes to totally wreck it. We are still setting up our infrastructure and volunteers are pouring in, but we can always use more. The lot is extremely narrow but a round house has a smaller footprint for the same square footage as compared to a rectangular house. We will be able to get more house in this tight lot using a Deltec home than we would if it was a conventional home. The foundation will be built tonight and construction on the Usea’s home will start in the morning.

too bad demo-ed house couldn't
have been moved somewhere else.
Looked pretty good from outside.
Lots of open land without houses in
9th ward of New Orleans.
Somebody probably could have used
that house. HARD to see a good
house destroyed.
Can we get the lot dimensions?
How deep are the pilings driven?
Thanks
Hi Linda, and thanks for posting. I completely understand the frustration at seeing a house be demolished when there is such a shortage of housing in New Orleans, but unfortunately this house was not structurally strong enough to be moved. It simply wouldn’t have made the trip. We’re hoping that this project will help rejuvenate interest in the continuing rebuilding of New Orleans and that those empty lots in the Lower 9th will soon see homes again!
Unfortunately, the lot dimensions aren’t available. Piles were not used at the house site, as the soils there didn’t require them.
Happy building!
